SAVANNAH

I consider myself to be in a fortunate group of those who have been lucky enough to spend a significant amount of time in Savannah. Never mind my first trip there was a three day gut punch leaving me in a pit of regret that I actively turned down a SCAD scholarship back when I was an 18 year old idiot. Who knows, maybe in a parallel universe I went and derailed my life in a different way. But I digress…

In so many ways, Savannah doesn’t even feel like a real place. You can line up for a sit down meal with total strangers (old people, probably) at Mrs. Wilkes dining room, drink an everclear slushie on the street, then watch a drunk woman fall out of a hearse on a ghost tour all in the same day. It’s magic?

Since I used to have people in Savannah, I got accustomed to wandering around the Starland District which is a little art school adjacent bubble out of the historic district. Its charm is a bit different but charm is still charm and Starland doesn’t miss.

Of course anywhere there are art students there’s an abundance of quirky window shopping to be done, which is another thing I could dig around and look through forever.

One of Savannah’s most IG-friendly bars, Peregrin, is something I still consider kinda worth the hype. That’s mostly just because I can’t turn down a view or a chance to look at bold wallpaper. What I’m saying is - even overdone spots in Savannah still hold up.

The most distressing thing to me about Savannah is how much I love these trees. Like….I LOVE them. Spanish moss I think actually has the power to completely cleanse whatever darkness surrounds my aura, I just know it.

A few winters ago on a Savannah trip, the city saw its first snowfall in around 30 years. Horrific, but made for a gorgeous and out of the ordinary backdrop for this cemetery shoot.

If I’m being honest, one of the best parts of living in Atlanta for a hot second was the semi-proximity to Savannah and I miss it always. Somedays I just wake up with the violent urge to be in Savannah just staring at it, in general.

Now all that really means is I’ve gotta put a bit more effort into getting back.
