MINNEAPOLIS

Last summer’s roadtrip through the Midwest took me to my new favorite, vastly underrated city: Minneapolis

The thing that surprised me most about Minneapolis is how beautifully green it is. Of course this was in June, but the tree-lined streets and lakes were stunning in a way I wasn’t ready for. And the city park culture really capitalized on it, particularly the Mill Ruins Park.

While we only had one full day to experience Minneapolis, this of course involved an outing to Mall of America. Malls are a dying art, but ever since watching Mary Kate and Ashley’s Mall Party VHS rented from Blockbuster, visiting was a dream. I could study this place forever, and the complexities of an indoor rollercoaster existing in a space with multiple Forever 21s and a Margaritaville.

We had time to kill before our dinner reservation and although a boozy slushie at Rainforest Cafe at the Mall of America wasn’t on my bucket list, it felt like I accomplished something.

Dinner came in the form of the long lost art of Midwestern supper clubs. I’ve been fascinated by this cultural staple, and Creekside Supper Club modernized the experience of a classic rural experience in the city for us to enjoy. Here you can dine among wood paneled walls full of paintings of ducks, while sipping on a martini and dining on broccoli cheddar soup. Just as the lord intended!!

My only regret in Minneapolis is not having more time there, but perhaps there is a future where I spend my summer supper club hopping.
