SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS

In between all the Edinburgh action of my Scotland trip, I made an overnight getaway to see the Scottish Highlands in an absolute whirlwind tour. Here’s what I packed in and documented along the way.

The first stop at an aggressive 10am time slot was a whiskey tour and tasting at Glengoyne Distillery outside of Glasgow. I can’t stand the taste of whiskey, it’s never been something I’ve been able to stomach with much (any) grace. But when in the motherland, I had to get over myself.

The tasting wasn’t as horrific as I imagined, and each taster was thoughtfully paired with a chocolate from a local chocolatier which was undoubtedly the best part of said tasting.

Following a whiskey buzz as my breakfast, the next stop was a much needed lunch in nearby Luss. The highlight here was the nearby cemetery and church, which I could have spent much more time wandering through while balancing my phone and umbrella. I can’t believe places like this are real.

The town itself is small but picturesque, and I’m sure had it not been raining so hard I’d have more to say.

We took a quick stop at the Three Sisters Viewpoint, one of the most well-known scenic spots in the Highlands. The mist added to the vibe quite nicely, but made it hard to photograph and better as an experience.

After hours of driving, the final stop took us to Black Sheep Hotel & Cabins on Loch Lochy. Sounds fake, but isn’t.

The pub provided the perfect night cap after a grueling day on the road in a van, and the hotel’s restaurant really had some top tier butter chicken and naan.

I’ve had a dream since I can remember to go to Loch Ness, and never did I imagine it would rain so hard I wouldn’t be able to get a view of the lake. The town is purely built off Nessie and her empire, which is the sort of shit I thrive in but in a group dynamic it’s hard to push your own agenda so behold! The only photos I took at Loch Ness. Need a redo, stat.

Ending this one on a better note, the main star of the Highlands: the Highland cow. She is all that matters, she heals all.
