LIZZIE BORDEN HOUSE

I hope for your sake that you’re as morbid as I am and are familiar with the Lizzie Borden axe murder story and its creepy little accompanying rhyme. Because if not, you’re gonna hate this.

The Lizzie Borden House is still the main thing keeping the Massachusetts town of Fall River on the map. Otherwise Fall River, as it exists today, isn’t a place I would ever classify as a quaint, picturesque New England town.

For starters, this house just looks haunted. Like, to the brim with ghosts. Just look at it, dark and looming and the current owners are not in the least bit shy about the axe decor.

It kinda goes without saying that following a horrific double axe murder within these walls, there’s some intense energy still trapped here. The bed & breakfast is well-maintained in late 19th century fashion and offers walk-through historical tours during the day where they take you through the grisly details of both the murders and the bizarre Borden family dynamic. Also yes, you can literally stay the night here in a murder room. Hell, you can even rent the entire house out foe the night for a large group if you’re feeling particularly insane.

Though the waiting list to spend the night here is years long (at least that used to be the case) the home is still open for tours. My attention span paired with my urge to defy guidance typically do not do well on guided tours however as they were about to close for the day, the guy at the gift shop offered us an unofficial five minute walk through which honestly? Thanking him forever for that.

The interior of the home is about as creepy as I’d imagined. The furniture is arranged in the exact way it was in the crime scene photos from 1892, and they’ve got some skull replicas to show how busted the victims were.

Although the murders happened in the living room and in an upstairs bedroom, the third floor bedrooms are considered to be the most haunted in the house. In this tour, each of us felt affected by whatever energy this house contains on both the second and third floors. And even though I almost fainted, it still didn’t deter me from posing with a foam axe to show as much disrespect as possible. Ya know, have to really make sure you add insult to injury and bring home a souvenir curse.
