DOLL’S HEAD TRAIL ATLANTA

A few years back, I had a little quarter life crisis year in Atlanta. Hilariously, I was actually born in ATL and lived there as a toddler so my time there circa 2018 was just all part of a very jagged but full circle. Although I was a ~ local ~ I didn’t know shit about the city, but I had one thing high up on my ATL bucket list.

Doll’s Head Trail is a dark icon just southeast of downtown, located within Constitution Lakes Park. And that’s an important detail because if you ever go, Constitution Lakes is what you want to pop into your GPS and not straight up “Doll’s Head Trail” which leads you down a true dead end road where I swear to you I saw a cat napping atop a literal hearse parked in someone’s yard.

Anyway, this nature preserve is a nice place to walk in the woods even without the promise of hollow eyed dolls. You follow along a nice, wide boardwalk path until you hit the lake (more of a swamp), and you go a little too far to the point it’s like…ok, so there are dolls here right? I didn’t make that up?

Eventually, following the Sharpie hand-written signs will get you to where you need to be. Doll’s Head Trail is a small loop that makes use of trash and clutter found within the preserve, re-purposed into a form of some weird, twisted art.

I guess my first question is - how in the hell are there so many doll heads abandoned in this park that this became the core to the trail? Like, make it make sense?

Major shout out to the geniuses behind this. For starters, it’s a clever way to clean up trash and turn it into something beautiful, yet dark.

You’re encouraged to add to what’s there, but the only stipulation is you have to use what you found in the park. Personally, I didn’t see any trash to donate which is probably a good thing to be limited on.

If for any reason you find yourself in ATL and don’t know what to do - just do this, somehow.
