BORREGO SPRINGS

Every now and then to keep from getting so self-involved I implode, I have to get out of LA for the weekend. As I’m always looking for all the places I’ve never known anybody else to go to because I have to be annoying about everything I do, I recently spent an overnight trip in Borrego Springs.

Technically located in San Diego County, but also not far from the Salton Sea, this desert town and nearby Anza-Borrego State Park were an oddly serene experience and a place I would 100% return to. Just maybe not in the August heat, actually.

It’s one of those places I feel like is untouched by the rest of the world’s bullshit. The crowd at the local dive bar seemed unbothered by every single thing in their life, the night sky was one of the darkest I’ve ever seen, and I’ve never been so inspired while drinking a Coors Lite and eating a salad.
